Creating Truly Accessible Worship

Custom Wheelchair-Friendly Mercy Seats

We’ve recently designed and crafted a bespoke pair of wheelchair-accessible Mercy Seats for a Salvation Army congregation in Middlesbrough.

After a detailed consultation, we created a design that allows wheelchair users to fully participate at the Mercy Seat alongside the rest of the congregation.

These Mercy Seats are built from beautiful European Oak and finished with a clear lacquer to showcase the natural grain. Each piece includes two padded kneelers for added comfort during use.

For added flexibility, we can also fit our Mercy Seats with braked castors on request—ideal for clients who need easy movement or adaptable layouts.

We also supplied one of our ever-popular Gas Height Adjustable Canterbury Lecterns, crafted in natural European Oak to perfectly match the new Mercy Seats. The lectern features a contrasting arched front panel that adds a refined touch and beautifully complements the overall design.

Bespoke Chair Lectern

Something a little different from the workshop this week!

We were recently approached by a church in Bristol to design and create a bespoke chair lectern — and we’re delighted with how it turned out.

Whether your church is short on space or looking for greater flexibility within the sanctuary, this custom-made piece could be the perfect solution.

The lectern features two folding support legs, allowing it to be used in two ways:

• Folded up – as a tabletop lectern

• Folded down – to slot securely onto the top of a chair, creating a low-height reading surface for books or notes

Crafted from European oak and finished in a clear satin lacquer, this piece also features a hand-carved inscription dedicated to a special member of the congregation — a delicate touch that makes it truly unique. Along with this, we have carved the church logo onto the front of the lectern.

Bespoke Fitted Furniture for a Private Client

A Bespoke Room Divider That Transforms Two Living Spaces

At Fuller’s Finer Furniture, we don’t just create pieces for churches – we also design, build, and install bespoke fitted furniture for the home.

Here’s a project we recently completed for a private client. The space between their lounge and dining room has been transformed into a true feature for both rooms.

We built a dividing wall and installed custom shelving units on either side, designed to complement each space perfectly. To keep the rooms bright and flexible, we added a pair of glazed doors – allowing the option of an open, airy feel or two cosy, separate spaces.

The shelving units have been crafted from MDF and are now ready for a painted finish to complete the look.

Bespoke solutions like this can completely transform your home

A complete set for a school in Manchester

A Tailored Collection Combining Tradition, Craftsmanship, and Detail

We are pleased to share a recent project completed for a school in Manchester.

This bespoke furniture set was designed to reflect the style of our well-established Canterbury and York lectern ranges. The commission included a Canterbury Lectern, Communion Table, Credence Table, Pascal Candle Stand, Statue Column, and Priest’s Chair.

Each piece was crafted in European oak, enhanced with contrasting stained panels to create a refined and elegant finish.

Working in close collaboration with the client, we developed a design that met their exact requirements. The furniture was then produced in our workshop by our skilled craftsmen, ensuring both quality and attention to detail throughout.

Tyndale Baptist Church

Creating a Modern, Accessible Servery for a Growing Church Community

This week, we proudly completed a brand new servery area for Tyndale Baptist church, a project that reflects our commitment to adapting to the evolving needs of the community.

Twenty years ago, we constructed a dedicated room within the church, complete with a servery station and a serving hatch. However, as the church’s activities and usage have transformed over the years, it became clear that an update was necessary to better serve its congregation.

We’ve removed the old servery and transformed the space into a modern, accessible servery area that invites interaction from all sides, creating an open and welcoming atmosphere. The cabinetry, finished in a warm golden oak stain, beautifully complements the church’s existing decor. To top it all off, the servery is fitted with a bespoke granite worktop, adding both elegance and functionality.

Altar table and plinth - a clever combination.

Altar table and plinth - a clever combination working for a Grade 1 Listed Building!

St John the Baptist Church, Axbridge is a Grade 1 listed building. Work began on the current building in 1400’s and the church has many features of tremendous architectural interest. Today the Church is a vital part of the community and Fullers Finer Furniture were delighted to be commissioned to design and craft a table and plinth for this beautiful, prestigious building.

The brief was for an altar table on a plinth, designed to be in keeping with its imposing surroundings, yet practical and easy to move, to meet the needs of a modern church community.

The plinth was made with a top surface in engineered solid oak panelling with a contrasting black walnut nosing and risers made in a natural oak to match the floor. The plinth had inset wheels for ease of movement, with a cleverly designed, stabilising screw down foot, in each corner, accessed from the top with an Allen key.

The nave altar designed to sit on top was made in solid oak with a decorative frame made in a Gothic Arch shape to mirror the chancel arch situated above it. The overall design of the two pieces ensured they had sufficient presence and grandeur for such a prestigious position, without compromising on the need for easy manoeuvrability.

Mission accomplished in Grade 1 listed, historic Sherborne Abbey, with the installation of cabinets designed and built to conceal unsightly modern electrics, in accessible cupboards, which discretely blend with their ancient surroundings.

Fullers have recently completed this project, which involved the design and installation of two tall oak cabinets, with panelled doors to conceal the electrics housed in this area of the ancient Abbey.

The cabinets made in a combination of veneered and solid European oak sit either side of an ancient door with a top centre section over the door. The top section has a removable access panel on magnetic catches and is machined with recessed finger pulls. The left hand side has a removable top panel with a brass hatch, ring pull handle for access to the cabling.

The cabinets are finished in a medium oak stain and polished in a clear satin lacquer to blend with the existing wood in the building.

When a member of the clergy team at Sherborne Abbey commented that the cupboards looked as if they had always been there, it was, a welcome compliment, confirming the mission as set, had been accomplished.
